This is a 1200 year old temple with a bare stone structure in which renovation work is on and is likely to get completed in 2 months time. There is a temple tank nearby which is referred to as Brahmatheertham. This is a small temple built by the Chola kings.
This is located off the Thiruvarur - Thiruthuraipoondi road and is 15 km from Thiruvarur and about 7 km from Thirukollikaadu ( Pongu sani sthalam).River Vellaaru runs close to this temple but is mostly dry.
Lord Shiva here is referred to as Kanjamalainadhar, Swarnagireeswarar, Panchathapureeswar and the Goddess is Gnanambigai.
Pradhosham pooja alone was carried out during last 13 years and only during last 7 years due to the initiative of some sivan adiyars one time pooja started and the government is paying Rs 720 per month to the priest Mr S.Parthasarathi.
Mr S. Parthasarathi is a post graduate (MA in Tamil ) and is enthusiastically taking care of this temple and also a nearby temple in Umamaheshwarapuram. He also takes help of Mr Rajendran and 20 other sivan adiyars in that area to collect resources and do the Pradhosham poojas.
During my visit to this temple based on the reference given by Jyothi Malai Adigal of kumbakonam it has been decided to pay a monthly remuneration of Rs 500 to Mr S. Parthasarathi to do the daily pooja in this temple.
